Description
Location & Transport
Located along the E17 (Ghent-Antwerp) in Temse. The on and off-ramp complex (exit 15) of Sint-Niklaas is situated less than 5 kilometers away. Furthermore, the planned Eastern Tangent will be constructed directly next to the building.
The Eastern Tangent is a planned connecting road on the eastern side of Sint-Niklaas that will link the E17 with the N70 (R42).
Purpose: To relieve the city center by directing through traffic and heavy freight traffic around the city instead of through it.
Route: The road runs largely parallel to the Sint-Niklaas-Mechelen railway line.
Infrastructure: In addition to the roadway for cars, there will be an independent cycling highway and a bicycle tunnel under Damstraat.
Status (2025): In September 2025, an updated design was approved by the city and the Roads and Traffic Agency. The start of construction is currently scheduled for around 2028.
Together with the existing Western Tangent, this project is intended to complete the ring road around Sint-Niklaas.
